Australian Radio Prank

Published December 8, 2012 by naughtyviews

You must have seen it in the news for the past few days so I might as well share my opinions. First, let me explain what happened. Two Australian radio station presenters decided to prank the hospital of where Kate Middleton was, acting as the Queen, to see if they could get any information. They didn’t think it would work but tried their luck and the receptionist but the call through to the nurse who was looking after Kate. (I love the way I just called her by her first name, as though we’re best friends). Anyways, no vital information was given but they were told that she has eaten, she was recovering nicely. They couldn’t believe they pulled it off. Note: the conversation was played live on air without any edits. Ok, so that’s done. They played a prank, it worked nicely, they didn’t get caught so game over, right? WRONG! Yesterday, the woman who answered the call to the radio prank was found dead at her home.

I might as well jump straight in with my views. Firstly, by pulling the prank, there was no illegal wrongdoing so I don’t understand why people are saying that the radio presenters should be blamed. I actually think there must be more to the story behind her death. I don’t get it, she hasn’t technically done anything wrong. Yes, there would be an investigation, but to kill yourself before that’s even undertaken is beyond me. What makes the case even worse is that she was a married woman and a mother of two. Selfish act in my eyes, perhaps desperate, but my heart goes out to the family. Maybe that’s another post in itself.

It seems like a ridiculous and far-fetched prank to pull off well, but maybe there’s flaws within the hospital itself. Just because it was the “Queen” that was on the phone, why did she put her through to the nurse? What happened to patient confidentiality? Maybe the hospital doesn’t have any practices put in place for that. Maybe she hadn’t been taught what to do. Either way, I still think the presenters are innocent. What they did was not illegal, morally wrong perhaps, but not enough to take the blame for it.
